This academy is hands-down one of the finest in El Paso’s jiu-jitsu scene. The sense of community here is unmatched welcoming, supportive, and filled with people who genuinely care about growth. The facilities are top-notch, clean, and equipped with everything needed to train effectively. What truly sets this place apart, though, are the instructors. They’re not just skilled; they’re passionate, approachable, and deeply invested in every student’s journey. They strike the perfect balance between tailoring training to individual goals and maintaining a structured curriculum that ensures steady progress toward belt advancement. Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned practitioner, they meet you where you are while challenging you to level up. If you’re looking for a place that combines expert guidance, camaraderie, and a commitment to excellence, this academy is a must-try. Highly recommend! 🌟🥋

I have been training at Black Sheep Bjj now for over 10 months. I moved to El Paso as a blue belt and had been looking for a school to train at. I wanted to be in a school where I could 1. Progress technically as a martial arts student who competes regularly in Brazilian jiu jitsu, and has aspirations to compete in MMA as well. A) Black Sheep Bjj is the first school I have been to where they use the ecological approach to teaching the art. This basically means their curriculum revolves around spending time in positions and playing jiu jitsu games in which the goal of the game is to build the skills necessary to use techniques. The instruction given takes one step back to reveal a wider view of why techniques work. This allows me to take that theory and apply it across the board to the whole game of jiu jitsu rather than just one specific technique. EXAMPLE - I have never seen a technique shown on how to maintain back control. Here I have learned why and how to control shoulders and hips in the rear mount, I am now basically a professional koala. B) Black sheep now offers MMA classes, one being lead by one of the most active Pro's in the city. I get plenty of time on the mats with experienced grapplers as we start to learn what is effective MMA jiu jitsu and what isn't. This is important to me as it preserves the roots of the art as bjj progresses into a sport. 2. Also have fun in the process. The easiest way to get good at something is when you love to do it. While preserving the focus of competitive training, we as a team are cracking jokes and laughing as we go along class. The community at black sheep brings a feeling of joy and freedom from life's pressures as I walk through the doors. Whether you just want to stay active and build your confidence or you have aspirations to compete and find your human potential, these mats are a special place everyone is welcome on and will be treated with respect as we grow together. The strength of the flock is the sheep The strength of the sheep is the flock!!!
